Sealed cabins,
salty interiors.

Marine cabins concentrate humidity, mould, and the breath of every guest into a sealed space. UV-C disinfects the interior without adding more moisture, without leaving chemical residue on marine surfaces, and without smell.

Industry Context

The disinfection saltwater hygiene needs

Boats are humid, sealed, and chemically sensitive — bleach degrades fittings, ammonia compounds attack rubber seals, and fragrances accumulate. UV-C is mechanical-free, residue-free, and works in the small spaces wiping can't easily reach. Charter operators, houseboat fleets, and live-aboard owners benefit equally.

Pathogens of Concern

What we're treating, specifically.

01

Mould and mildew

Constant marine humidity makes this the dominant hygiene issue.

02

Norovirus

Single most common cause of disrupted multi-day charter trips.

03

Diesel and bilge bacteria

Lower-deck biological loads that wipe-cleaning cannot reach.

04

Seasonal lay-up contamination

Boats stored or unused for weeks develop persistent contamination.

Use Cases

How UV Sterile fits your operation.

Charter boat turnover

Between charter groups at the marina — cabins, galley, heads, and saloon disinfected in 15–25 minutes.

Seasonal recommissioning

After winter lay-up or extended storage — full-vessel treatment before resuming use.

Houseboat between guests

Same as STR property turnover, adapted for the marine context.

Post-incident response

After a sick passenger, gastro outbreak, or known exposure — fast recovery without delay to the next charter.

Compliance

Charter and passenger vessel hygiene.

Treatment supports compliance with AMSA Domestic Commercial Vessel hygiene expectations and provides documented disinfection logs for charter operators. Particularly valuable for operators competing for corporate and government charters where hygiene documentation is part of the tender requirement.

Frequently Asked

Questions, answered.

Can you treat in the water at a marina berth?

Yes — we can deliver service to most Sunshine Coast and Brisbane marinas. Vessel must be powered (we can run from shore power) and we operate from a sheltered cabin.

Does UV-C damage marine carpet, leather, or upholstery?

At periodic treatment intervals, no. We've serviced charter vessels with leather saloons and marine carpet for years without reported degradation.

Can we treat a vessel under sail or on passage?

We service docked or moored vessels only — the unit requires stable mains-equivalent power and the operator must work from outside the treatment area.

Do you sell the unit for owner-operator use?

Yes — many commercial charter operators own a unit for in-house turnover. See our Buy a Unit page.
